Instructor: Susan Lasley
Instructor Bio: Susan has over 35 years of professional sewing experience. It all began at the age of 18 while attending college. Her course of study was Fashion Design and Merchandising. She quickly realized that her favorite classes were all about pattern making and clothing construction. She gives credit for the deepening of her knowledge to several mentors as she worked in various capacities at different businesses over that beginning 5 year period. They included tailor shops, and bridal salons in the alteration and custom gown departments. And of course she gained a love of quilting in her spare time, because quilting is all about color and detailed construction to create beautiful things for your home.! Those 5 years set a strong foundation of experience that allowed her to transition to a home based custom sewing business as she raised her family. At first she focused on custom wedding dresses and alterations of all kinds. In the year 2000 she attended some continuing education conferences and branched out into custom soft goods for custom homes. This included draperies, structured valances, custom bedding and decorative pillows, as well as custom cushions for furniture of all kinds. In the meantime she found joy in sharing her knowledge by teaching a variety of classes to a variety of ages. Her youngest students were her own children starting at a very young age of 6. As they became young teens she even hired them to help in her workroom. All 4 of them currently use their sewing skills in different capacities, including her son! Susan is very excited to be teaching beginner level sewing and quilting classes exclusively at HCQ! She has selected a variety of projects that are focused on teaching beginning skills that will increase your confidence and skill level in a fun environment! Her classes will be offered in daytime hours, as well as evening hours. While some of the projects may not look like beginner level, she assures us that they are! (even the bags with the dreaded zipper!)
