So many Long Arm quilters have asked if we carry King Tut quilting thread by Superior Threads. Well, we listened and YES, we now carry all 75 colors of the high quality line of quilting thread (shown above). The large cones are 2,000 yards and you'll love the variety of variated colors, tone-on-tones by Sue Nickels, and cottage colors by Betty Cotton as well as the basic solid colors in the line.
King Tut quilting thread is #40/3 Extra-long Staple Egyptian Cotton with one inch precise color change. Extra Long Staple (ELS) cotton thread is a premium thread with very low lint and is a much stronger thread. This means a cleaner sewing machine and less breakage, frustration, and down time as well as smoother stitch lines. Our new King Tut thread display is a feast for the eyes!

Shown above is the Millenium model that we use for our long arm quilting classes. The Millenium is APQS' fully-loaded model with features such as an Automatic Stitch Regulator, as well as all of the features that are optional on the rest of the APQS line of machines. The stitch regulator helps you get off to a quick start with perfect stitching with your long arm quilting.
The Millenium has a throat space of 26" x 10.5" with 23 square feet of quilting capacity without advancing the fabric. It also features a needle positioner (2-stage), lower thread cutter, channel locks, single-stitch feature, and much more.
The quiet DC motor and lightweight versatility has virtually no vibration and makes it a joy to breeze through your quilting tasks.

The George is a complete long arm quilting system. It's a stationary, sit-down machine without a frame and has a generous 20" throat that means you don't have to squeeze your quilts through a small space. When you're not quilting, the table folds down to just 60" x 23" of space. It also runs on regular household current and has a super quiet fully-enclosed motor. Please call us at the shop if you have any questions and for pricing on delivery and set-up outside the Colorado Springs area. You are also welcome to come by the shop for a demonstration of the new addition to our family--George!
Here is our "Milly", the APQS Millenium Long Arm Quilting System, set up in a special space of her own at HCQ where we give classes and demonstrations. Customers can also rent Milly by the hour.

Now you can rent our APQS George Long Arm Quilting Machine on site to machine quilt all those quilt tops you've pieced. You are eligible to rent the George if you are an experienced quilter or have taken our new George Long Arm Quilting class with Natalie . Rental rate is $20.00 per hour. See class details below.
~~~~GEORGE LONG ARM QUILTING CLASSES~~~~~
George is a long arm quilting machine in a desk. Use your established free-motion quilting skills on a true twenty-inch deep long arm. Free yourself from the constraints of quilting on a home machine and discover how easy it is to finish your quilts! We expect you to have some free-motion experience for this class because we’re going to concentrate on using George and doing as much stitching as we can! Class size will be limited to just three or four students so everyone gets maximum time with our new best friend. Bring a small quilt top, batting, and backing(no larger than crib size; about 40” by 50” please). One hour of unsupervised practice quilting on the George outside of class is included in the class fee. Advanced beginner level (previous free-motion quilting required). Class fee: $50.00
After taking this class, you'll be eligible to rent HCQ's George by the hour to complete your quilts.

LONG ARM QUILTING CLASSES AT HIGH COUNTRY QUILTS
We are so lucky to have Janet Mohler as our long arm instructor. Janet's quilting has won awards and she has taught at the national level. You can see some of her wonderful work in Karen McTavish's book, "Mastering the Art of McTavishing".
If you want to quilt those tops you have completed, are thinking of purchasing a machine for quilting, or just want to learn how a long arm works, this is a great beginner level class to take. Janet Mohler will instruct you in everything from the differences in thread to what to look for in a pantograph! You will learn everything you need to know to run a long arm and be "certified" to rent hours on HCQ's long arm machine after class completion. The classes are 3 sessions of 2 hours each and include 3 hours of "homework" on our APQS Millenium long arm machine (Milly) which you can schedule at your convenience. What a great way to get those quilts finished!
Millenium long arm classes with Janet Mohler are $150.00. Call us if you have any questions and to register. Since class size is limited to just three students per class and these classes fill up so quickly, we are not allowing on-line registration at this time. If a class is full, call us to get on a waiting list in case of a last minute student cancellation. Contact us if you'd like to schedule a special class for you and at least two friends.

Fabric/Notions/Equipment—HCQ offers students a 10% discount on required supplies listed on this supply list and purchased at HCQ for our classes (with the exception of machines). All supplies (machines--only APQS) are available for purchase at HCQ unless otherwise noted.
--L-style bobbins filled with thread, color of your choice, or pre-wound bobbins (recommended)
--Pencil & paper for notes
--Scissors for fabric.
--Rental zipper set (optional)
--Seam ripper
--Industrial type machine needles size 18
--Quilt top (optional)
--Batting 3-6" larger on all sides than your top (optional)
--Cross-wound longarm machine thread for your quilting
--Quilt backing 3-6" larger on all sides than your top (optional)
--Pins (recommend corsage pins or flower-head pins)
We will have some quilts donated by Quilts from the Heart for you to practice on, if you wish. In addition, you may want to bring in a top so the teacher can point out potential problems, if any.
